Abstract

PCOS is known to raise the risk of pregnancy complications, including gestational diabetes (GDM) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) as compared to controls. These increased risks are likely related to the intrinsic insulin resistance in PCOS, and the magnitude of insulin resistance is primarily related to obesity. Lean women with PCOS are minimally at risk for cardiovascular disease due to the mild nature of their insulin resistance. Therefore, we have studied the risk of pregnancy complication in women with PCOS and BMI≥30 kg/m2 as compared to women with PCOS and BMI<30 using a national database.
