Abstract

We evaluated the ability of the calcium channel blocker nifedipine to control autonomic hyper-reflexia during cystoscopy in 7 patients with cervical spinal cord injuries. Nifedipine (10mg.) alleviated autonomic hyperreflexia when given sublingually during cystoscopy and prevented autonomic hyperreflexia when given orally 30 minutes before cystoscopy. No adverse drag effects were observed.
