Abstract

The effect of the near vision zone size of a near center hydrogel lens on distance and near visual acuity was tested using a forced choice Landolt C test. With large near zones (3.0 and 3.5mm) there was a decrease in distance acuity but an improvement in near acuity. With small zone sizes there was improvement in distance acuity but a decrease in near acuity. There was little correlation between zone size and pupil size with respect to visual acuity.
