Abstract

The effects of ionic surfactants, including cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), on the cloud point of Triton X-100 (TX100) solutions and the effects of excess CTAB and SDS on the cloud point of TX100 solutions in the presence of CTAB-SDS mixture have been investigated. When ionic surfactant is added into TX100 solution, the cloud point of TX100 solution increases as expected. However, the cloud point of TX100 solution remains unaltered in the presence of 1:1 CTAB-SDS mixture. The effects of excess CTAB and SDS on the cloud point of TX100 solutions in the presence of mixed CTAB-SDS show that the cloud point of TX100 solution is raised, but the effect is restrained by the presence of the mixed CTAB-SDS. The results have been explained reasonably.
