Abstract

This paper examines (investigates) the effect of matching lecturer gender and student gender on students’ achievement in on-going assessments, final exams as well as the final results. The sample was obtained from Malaysian university students taking cost accounting course, in which a prerequisite must be fulfilled i.e. the same course must be taught by male and female lecturers and the class comprise of male and female students. Independent sample t-test is utilised to prove whether female student-female lecturer combination, male students-male lecturer combination, female students-male lecturer combination, or male students-female lecturer combination performed better. The results revealed that there is a significant different between the means of performance of female students taught by female lecturers and male students taught by male lecturers, A significant different was also found between means of performance measures of female students taught by male lecturers and female students taught by female lecturers. Another significant different was found between female students taught by female lecturers and female students taught by male lecturers.
