Abstract

The synthesis of the glycoprotein acid phosphatase in a mannose-deficient mutant of Schizosaccharomyces pombe was studied. In a set of experiments using different mannose concentrations and the inhibitor of protein synthesis, cycloheximide, it is shown that the presence of mannose, the main component of the carbohydrate moiety seems to be essential for the synthesis of the protein moiety of the glycoprotein.
