Abstract

In this work, palm oil based polyurethane (PU) foam were synthesized from palm oil based polyol (POP) and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) with a ratio of 1:1.1. The effect of different magnesium (Mg) content from 0.5wt.% to 3.0wt.% on PU/Mg foam composites were evaluated on morphology, density and compressive strength. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) morphology of PU/Mg shows that by the addition of Mg, the cells structure is less homogeneous as compared to neat PU. The density of PU/Mg were increased from 0.0534g/cm3 to 0.0600g/cm3 with the increasing of Mg content from neat PU to 2.0% PU/Mg. The compressive strength of PU/Mg were investigated by using Universal Testing Machine Instron (UTM) and display increment from 1.291MPa to 1.688MPa with increasing of Mg content from neat PU to 2.0% PU/Mg.
