Abstract

Fertile Single Comb White Leghorn eggs were incubated in either normal darkened incubators or in lighted incubators. After 8 days of incubation, embryo weight and the total content of ribonucleic acid (RNA), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and protein were higher for the light-treated embryos than for the embryos in the dark. The concentration of RNA, DNA, and protein was the same for both treatments. The concentration of adenosine triphosphate in the lighted embryos was lower than that of the embryos in the dark at both 7 and 8 days of incubation.
