Abstract

Investigating the action of light of a tungsten filament lamp on a mixture of air and N 20 gas, the following effects have been observed: 1. (1) The disappearance of some large ion groups which appear clearly when the mixture is kept in the dark; 2. (2) A decrease in the concentration of ions with mobilities about 0·70 × 10 −4 and an increase in the concentration of ions with mobilities < about 0·70 × 10 −4; 3. (3) A decrease in the total ion concentration of the ions with mobilities ranging from 12·5 × 10 −4 to 0·60 × 10 −4 cm/sec: V/cm. Both the divided electrode condenser method and the whole electrode condenser method were used in this investigation.
