Abstract

The effect of aberrations of the Fourier-transforming lens on the Vander Lugt correlation filtering system is investigated. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that in some cases good filters can be set up using poor quality lenses. A method is shown to predict the effect of aberrations on the space invariance of the system using the Twyman-Green interferograms of the lens.
