Abstract

Pressure changes occurring in the duodenum, jejunum, caecum and spiral colon of sheep were recorded to assess the affect of lantana on intestinal motility. Lantana did not affect the responses of the duodenum to pentagastrin given intravenously or to hydrochloric acid given into the duodenum. It was possible to demonstrate contractions of the jejunum, caecum and spiral colon after lantana was given. The results of these experiments do not support an hypothesis that lantana causes intestinal paralysis.
