Abstract

This paper studies the tribocorrosion of (Ti/CoCr)-on-(Ti/CoCr) under various operating parameters. Using the Taguchi approach, four operating parameters including sliding amplitude, frequency, normal force, and potential were studied. The volume loss was captured using surface profilometry and confocal microscopy. The results of the current, volume loss and abraded depth were analysed to determine the contribution of various parameters; thereby, the most influential parameter in governing the behaviour of each contact was identified. The tribocorrosion behaviour seemed to be governed by the sliding and potential in contacts with Ti and CoCr disks, respectively. The results confirmed unique similarities between contacts with disk made of same alloy. Accordingly, the behaviour of the mixed-alloy contacts was linked to the single-alloy contacts.
