Abstract

1. The β-adrenergic agent, isoproterenol, stimulated water gain and reduced urine production in the toad, Scaphiopus couchi, which were freshly captured in the field. 2. With animals maintained in the laboratory for 3 months, isoproterenol failed to stimulate water gain but did reduce urine formation. 3. These responses are similar to the effects of hypertonic stimuli in this species indicating that variation in antidiuretic hormone action is paralleled by β-adrenergic agents.
