Abstract

Ion orbit losses appear to be a prime candidate for explaining the narrow power deposition profiles in JET. In this paper we address the question as to whether the coupling of momentum from these ions into the SOL can drive significant flow in the SOL. Our results show that whilst the expected effect is observed the magnitude is too small to explain the large flows observed in the JET SOL by Mach probes.
