Abstract

This study explores the relationship between Internet usage and decision-making effectiveness for information technology (IT) managers in China. Based on the input of 123 managers working for the top eight multinational IT companies in China, it was found that the Internet is an effective tool in facilitating managerial decision-making. As China enters the WTO, the rate of Internet adoption will continue to accelerate. The ability to fully utilize the Internet's capability will increase the effectiveness of managerial decision-making, a key factor for enterprise competitiveness, ibis study is particularly valuable for three reasons: (1) IT managers are faced with making critical decisions everyday during this slow economy time; (2) Hardly any study in this area can be found, using a mainland China sample; (3) China has become the center of attention worldwide, in which at least the Internet user population will top the world in few years.
