Abstract

The effects of fuel injection timing and their combined effect with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) when running with a 20% volume of waste plastic oil (PO20) blended with diesel are explored. Different fuel injection timings of 19°, 23° and 27° CAbTDC were tested. Studies on the impact of 20% EGR at 27° CAbTDC fuel injection timing have also been investigated. The findings are compared with base fuel (diesel) when the engine is operated at full load condition. According to the test results, the Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) of the engine decreased for the PO20 blend compared to diesel by 3.5%. The (BTE) of the PO20 blend at 27° CAbTDC injection timing was higher than that of other fuel mixtures. With PO20 at 27° CAbTDC and 20% EGR, the BTE was significantly decreased. For the PO20 blend with 20% EGR, the emission of HC, CO and Smoke increased.
