Abstract

The problem on Barnett slip of gas along a plane surface is solved within the suggested kinetic model for a diatomic gas with rotational degrees of freedom of molecules, which takes into account transitions from rotational degrees of freedom to translational and vice versa. The Barnett slip coefficient is obtained in the form of a function dependent on the frequency of inelastic collisions of gas molecules and on the coefficient of accommodation of tangential momentum.
