Abstract
Abstract The yield and tensile strengths of under-aged (UA) and peak-aged (PA) aluminium 7017 have been measured at quasi-static and shock induced strain-rates, showing that PA has higher yield strengths whilst tensile strengths are similar in both states. Microstructural evidence shows failure is controlled by crack initiation at grain boundary inclusions.
