Abstract

Head field calculations for a single-pole type head were conducted to determine the effect of magnetic interaction between head and medium. We found that the head field was influenced strongly not only by the magnetic properties of the underlayer but by those of the recording layer. We therefore clarified the relationship between the head field and the parameters of the head and medium through calculations which took the magnetic properties of the recording layer into consideration. Moreover, comparison of the head fields of a single-pole type head and a ring head showed that the former is capable of high-density recording even onto a relatively thick recording layer.
