Abstract

The effect of several guest molecules in the solvent, 1,1,2-trichloroethane, for electrochemical crystal growth of the organic superconductor K -(BEDT-TTF) 2Cu(NCS) 2, is studied. As guest molecules, H 2O, MeCN, MeNO 2, MeOH, EtOH, Me 2CO, THF, CHCl 3, CCl 4, C 6H 6 and cyclo-C 6H 12 were examined. The presence of guest molecules was found to have a significant influence on the size and shape of grown crystals. In particular, addition of MeOH to the solvent was found to result in an appreciable increase in the thickness of the grown crystals.
