Abstract

Highly responding ACI, medium responding WF and low responding F344 inbred rats were gonadectomized or sham-operated at various intervals after birth, and then they were immunized with poly(Glu52Lys33Tyr15). Gonadectomy did not affect antibody production in either males or females. Its only effect was to increase the size of the thymus in males. Therefore, we conclude that sex hormones do not play a signifciant role in the regulation of antibody formation, in the system being studied, under physiological conditions.
