Abstract

The emptying times of glucose solutions of different concentrations by the stomach of the young pig have been compared. The emptying of glucose solutions has also been compared with that of galactose, sorbitol and sodium chloride of similar osmolarity. The more concentrated the glucose solution, the more slowly it is emptied, as is reported in other species. The emptying rate of galactose is similar to that of glucose and slower than sorbitol which is emptied at a similar rate to sodium chloride.
