Abstract

Background: Burns is one of society's most common types of trauma. It is estimated that around 1.2 million people experience burns each year and 100,000 of them require hospitalization. The giwang fern cactus leaf (Euphorbia milii) extract contains many antimicrobial compounds in almost all plant parts. This study determined the effect of giwang fern cactus leaf extract (Euphorbia milii) on the number of fibroblasts in burnt white rats infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methods: This experimental study uses a randomized post-test research design with a control group using three groups of rats. The data results were analyzed statistically using a parametric test with Anova (One Way Anova). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 for Windows. Results: This study showed that the 50% giwang fern cactus leaf (Euphorbia milli) extract had the highest average number of fibroblasts (38.3±8.77), compared with the control (23.3±1.86) and P1 group (25%) (27.6±6.65). Based on the analysis test, it is known that there is a significant comparison between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the number of fibroblast cells among groups after providing giwang fern cactus leaf (Euphorbia milii) extract.
