Abstract

Purpose: Foot orthoses and footwear interventions are effective at improving pain in people with patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA). However, the mechanism of effect is unclear. Knee braces have been shown to reduce pain and bone marrow lesion (BML) volume in individuals with PFOA. The primary aim of this study was to determine whether foot orthoses and footwear reduce BML volume in individuals with PFOA. The secondary aim was to explore the relationship between change in BML volume and change in pain.
