Abstract

The elastic neutrino scattering on deuterium νd → μ −pp is studied for moderate neutrino energies using the impulse approximation. The numerical results for the double differential cross sections d 2σ dq 2 dE μ where q 2 is the four momentum transfer squared and E μ is the muon energy are presented. The effect of the final state interactions is discussed using the two-nucleon continuum wave function derived from the Reid potential with a hard core and a Hulthèn wave function for the deuteron. The differential cross section dσ dq 2 is also calculated and compared with the results obtained in the closure approximation. The effect of more realistic deuteron wave functions on the differential cross section dσ dq 2 is also discussed in the closure approximation.
