Abstract

Desorption kinetics of CO from Rh(111) surface has been studied using TPD and isotope switch techniques. Linear increase of absolute desorption rate with ambient CO gas pressure was observed. The exchange process of gas molecules with adsorbed molecules dominates the desorption kinetics. A kinetic model for direct exchange reaction to explain the desorption enhancement by the ambient gas is in good agreement with experiment results. The effect of the exchange reaction on adsorption kinetics is discussed.
