Abstract
The effect of enamel etching upon the tensile strength of fissure sealant bonds was investigated. Etching greatly increased the strength of bond obtained with the three resins tested. 30 per cent orthophosphoric acid produced considerably higher bond strengths than those measured after etching for the same time with 50 per cent orthophosphoric acid. The use of a surface primer following etching reduced bond strength.
