Abstract

1. Estradiol-17β results in an increase in peripheral venous distensibility.2. This increase in peripheral venous distensibility results in a decrease in the linear velocity of venous blood flow in the calf.3. A hypothesis explaining the changes in cardiac output during pregnancy is suggested.
