Abstract

Abstract In this study, 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS) was selected as a new corrosion inhibitor used in electro-migration treatment for repairing reinforced concrete buildings and its corrosion inhibitive effectiveness was evaluated. The results indicated that the corrosion current density decreased as addition of APS in simulated pore solution. Chloride contents decreased and the alkalinity in the concrete increased and the entire resistivity of reinforced concrete specimens enhanced after electro-migration treatment with APS. Water resistance was so improved after electro-migration treatments with APS, indicating that APS can be used as a multi-functional agent on enhancing the durability of reinforced concrete.
