Abstract

In modern manufacturing systems, human labor often is an important resource. Consequently, in the design and redesign of human-based manufacturing systems, a reliable description of both hardware and human components is required, which was often neglected in the past. Digiesi et al. (2004) presented a model describing both fatigue and learning effects on worker behavior over time. In this paper, the authors show that dynamic worker behavior over time has a profound impact on the queueing behavior of a flow line. Simulation results show that these conclusion hold for both long- and short-term simulation models.
