Abstract
The fatigue characteristics of titanium alloy IMI 834 were studied under both cyclic and dwell loading conditions. Strain data were taken from two different heat treatments of IMI 834 titanium alloy during fatigue cycling with 10 Hz haversine, 0.065, and 0.033 Hz trapezoidal loading wave forms. The resulting cyclic strain accumulation rates were calculated and compared to determine if a trend could be identified related to the significant reduction in life observed as a result of the dwell time at maximum load. It was found that, indeed, when high cyclic strain accumulation rates were observed, there was a significant reduction in fatigue life.
