Abstract

An experimental study of the deformation and drainage of a Newtonian liquid film trapped between viscoelastic drops is performed in the case of gentle collisions (typically coalescing). The effect of the elastic stress in the drop phase is investigated. An analogy between the experimental interferometric observations and the results from a mathematical model is made. The model is based on the assumption of small deformation, and consists of lubrication approximations of the film flow and creeping flow for a Maxwell-type viscoelastic dispersed phase.KeywordsInterfacial TensionPolymer BlendThin Liquid FilmCoalescence ProcessLubrication ApproximationThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
