Abstract

Theoretical expression for the rolling resistance of crawler tractors have been derived on the basis that a trapezoidal contact pressure distribution exists under the tracks when a tractor operates with a drawbar load. Experimental investigations carried out with a special 500 h.p. research and experimental tractor are described. These investigations show that as predicted, the rolling resistance increases with drawbar load although there is a small initial load range in which the rolling resistance actually decreases.
