Abstract

Faba bean ( Vicia faba L.) was grown in pots with sandy soil under normal, drainage and 1:1 mixture of irrigation water, having electrical conductivities of 2·5, 11·5 and 6·7 mmhos/cm, respectively. Salinity of irrigation water reduced the number and weight of nodules, N 2-fixing efficiency, and dry weight of shoots and roots. The present study shows that the effects of normal irrigation water and 1:1 mixture of drainage and normal irrigation water on the processes of nodule production, growth and N 2 fixation are not significantly different.
