Abstract

In an effort to determine the effects of divorce on the relationship between parental bonding and sexrole identification, 369 men between the ages of 24 and 40 completed the Personal Attributes Questionnaire, Parental Bonding Instrument, and personal data sheet. Significant differences between sexrole groups in levels of perceived care are reported. Patterns of the parental bonding/sexrole indentification relationship, and explanations of these patterns are discussed. Implications of the effects of divorce on the parental bonding/sexrole identification relationship are also addressed. Comparisons are drawn between males' and females' sexrole identification and perceived levels of parental care and overprotection. Future research directions are proposed.
