Abstract
The oxide layers formed by plasma electrolytic (micro-arc) oxidation on technical grade magnesium 9995A in electrolytes with 25, 35 and 50 nm dispersed silicon dioxide nanoparticles were investigated. The positive effect of 25 nm size nanoparticles on wear properties and corrosion resistance of the oxide layer was demonstrated. The dispersed 35 nm nanoparticles virtually do not affect the oxide layer properties, while the 50 nm size nanoparticles significantly impair the properties.
