Abstract

The rôle played by in-pore gas transport in limiting the rate of oxidation of nuclear grade graphite in air has been investigated at temperatures of 435, 460 and 485°C. A mathematical model has been developed which accurately predicts the effect of simultaneous diffusion and bulk gas flow on the thermal oxidation kinetics.
