Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of different ischemic time on sevoflurane postconditioning in rat middle cerebral artery occlusion model(MCAO). Methods Male SD rats were randomly allocated into 3 groups subjected to MCAO for 60 min, 90 min or 120 min separately and then treated with sevoflurane at the beginning of reperfusion. The infarct volume and neurological deficit scores were evaluated at 24 hours. Results The infarct volume of 60, 90 and 120 min group is 26. 35%, 42. 65% and 50. 02%.In 90 min group, postconditioning with sevoflurane deceased neurological deficit scores(1. 41 vs.2. 22)and infarct volume(30. 17% vs.42. 65%), while no significant differences were observed in 60 min and 120 min groups. Conclusion Optimal ischemic time is very important in experiment with MCAO. Key words: Middle cerebral artery occlusion; Sevoflurane; Postconditioning; Ischemic time
