Abstract

SynopsisPotash was the most important factor in maintaining high yields and persistence of an alfalfa stand. The “critical percentage” for potassium content varied from season to season and probably lies somewhere between 1.42 and 1.84%. Nitrogen fertilization tended to decrease yields and stands whereas phosphorus had no significant beneficial effect.
