Abstract

Gd3Al5O12:Eu3+ (GAG:Eu) phosphors have been prepared by sol-gel route using different chelating agents (Glucose, Lactose, and Maltodextrin). The effect of the chelating agents on the stabilization of GAG:Eu was investigated via XRD, Photoluminescence (PL) under UV excitation and X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) analyses. Structural characterization reveals that the stabilization of the GAG structure is strongly influenced by the chelating agents and that Maltodextrin was the most suitable for GAG:Eu stabilization. Photoluminescence results reveals the existence of two Eu3+ symmetry sites, due to the presence of the GdAlO3 (GAP) secondary phase. XEOL and PL emissions exhibit typical Eu3+ emission lines with the dominant 5D0→7F1 transition in the spectra. The integral XEOL revealed that the X-ray energy is absorbed and efficiently transferred to the optical channels.
