Abstract

It has been shown that diethylstilbestrol in the adult male rat has the effect of partially preventing the extreme atrophy of the accessory sex organs which results from hypophysectomy. There was no effect on the weight of the adrenal gland, but there was a depression of body weight. The effect of corticotropin on the adrenal was not modified by diethylstilbestrol. Corticotropin caused a slight loss in testes weight but was without effect on accessory organ weights. Cortisone caused a decrease in body weight and when given with diethylstilbestrol the effect was greater than with either one alone. There was no effect on adrenal, testes, or accessory organ weights.
