Abstract

1. 1. The activities of several enzymes of glycolysis, gluconeogenesis and lipogenesis have been determined in adult guinea-pig liver. ‘Malic enzyme’ activity could not be detected. 2. 2. Thyroxine administration caused a significant increase in the activity of extra-mitochondrial aconitate hydratase and ATP citrate lyase and a marked decrease in the activity of mitochondrial PEP carboxykinase and pyruvate carboxylase. 3. 3. Sucrose feeding resulted in an increase in the activity of pyruvate kinase and phosphofructokinase and a decrease in the activity of mitochondrial PEP carboxykinase. 4. 4. Neither sucrose feeding nor thyroxine injection induced ‘malic enzyme’ activity.
