Abstract

The oxidizer CrO 3 was added into MoS 2 powder for changing the compositions of the oxides and sulfides formed on the metal surface in reciprocating motion, the wetting behavior of the rubbing pin surface was investigated with respect to the zero transfer film by sessile contact angle method. The low energy Auger spectra of iron, the binding energies of Fe 2p3/2 and S 2p indicate that a transfer film was formed on the pin surface with MoS 2+CrO 3(2%wt) lubricating. In the transfer film, iron oxide existed as Fe 3O 4, sulfide existed as FeSO 4. The lower friction coefficient and wear rate of pin with MoS 2+CrO 3 lubricating were obtained compared with MoS 2 lubricating. It is found that Fe 3O 4 on the steel surface can promote the formation of MoS 2 transfer film under light load and moderate reciprocating speed.
