Abstract

Summary. The effect of cholinergic substances on the thermal receptors of the tongue of the cat has been studied by recording the impulses set up in single thermal fibres.Minute amounts of acetylcholine shift the temperature range of the steady discharge of cold fibres towards the warm side and increase definitely the rate of the stationary discharge of the receptors inside the normal range of temperature. Larger amount.; produce a depression of the steady discharge and a narrowing of the temperature range recorded. Corresponding results were found on warm fibre preparations.Menthol was found to exert a similar effect on the cold and on the warm fibre discharge.
