Abstract
Experiments are reported on the effects of heavy tharged particle irradiation on the germination process of B. subtilis spores. The possible mechanisms of inactivation admitted by the data are discussed. The sensitive units responsible for the various steps in the germination process are inactivated independently, and the mechanism of inactivation is the samefor all the units observed. (auth)
