Abstract
THE problem of obtaining desirable plumage development and body growth in the chick is of fundamental importance to the entire poultry industry.The completeness of feathering is influenced by such factors as rate of feathering, quality, and structure of feathers. Observations have been made which tend to indicate some influence of feeding certain cereal grains on feathering and growth of the chick. Therefore, this study was undertaken in an attempt to determine (1) the effects of various diets upon rate of growth and structure of feathers and upon body growth, (2) to attempt to determine what grains or parts of grains produce the most economical growth and desirable types of feather structure, and (3) to determine what actual feather structure differences are produced by the various diets used.REVIEW OF LITERATUREReports by Radi and Warren (1938), Gericke and Platt (1932), Wilcke (1936), Wilcke and Hammond (1940), Mussehl et al. .
