Abstract

Hydromagnetic thrust bearings with an axial magnetic field and an axial current are analysed. For a given flow rate, the load due to viscosity and that due to inertia increase as the Hartmann number increases. The magnitude of the viscosity load is the same as that of any existing solution whereas the inertial load is similar to that described by Ramanaiah. There is little effect of axial velocity on the thrust bearings.
