Abstract

Sunnafrank and Miller (1981) have advanced a conversational expectation explanation to address why attitude similarity exerts an effect on interpersonal attraction in bogus‐stranger relationships, but does not exert an effect when individuals are given a brief opportunity to interact with one another. To date, no empirical study has been undertaken to test Sunnafrank and Miller's conversational expectation explanation. The study reported in this article tested and failed to provide support for Sunnafrank and Miller's conversational expectation explanation.
