Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Nissen fundoplication on body weight. Methods From November 2017 to December 2018, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF) was carried out in 73 patients, who have been diagnosed with hiatal hernia with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) at People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Whereas, the effect of LNF on body weight was retrospectively analyzed. Result Total of 73 patients were successfully undergone the surgery without conversion to laparotomy. The mean operative time was 71.5 (62~95) minutes, mean hospital stay was 4.3(4~7) days. All of the patients were released from reflux symptoms and stopped using PPIs after surgery. The body weight of the patients at time of pre-operation, 3, 6, 12 months after surgery was (76.78±12.16)、(72.19±10.91)、(70.33±10.62)、(70.63±10.33)kg. The BMI of all patients at time of pre-operation, 3, 6, 12 months after surgery was (27.40±4.17)、(25.77±3.85)、(25.11±3.76)、(25.22±3.68) kg/m2. The mean body weight lost during whole follow up time was 6.15kg. Conclusion LNF has distinct effect on loosing weight. Key words: Gastroesophageal reflux disease; Fundoplication; Body mass index
