Abstract
The finite element method is used to study the behaviour of an E-glass/epoxy system containing an interphase tested by the embedded single fibre test. The effect of mechanical properties and thickness of an interphase on the stress distribution after fibre breakage is examined. Energy distribution within the composite and elastic energy released during propagation of an interfacial crack are evaluated. These results are used to develop a strain history for this system.
